5 Stars = Outstanding 4 Stars = Very Good

Full HD 1080p output via HDMI with Cinema mode at 24 or 60 frames per second USB Media Host

This is an excellent entry-level blu-ray player. The colors are vibrant and the picture is crisp connected to my Samsung LCD television via the HDMI port. Disc loading times are miniscule, with the player initiating playback in less than one minute. I have tested both recent and older blu-ray titles (Watchmen, The Prestige, Death Race) and have experienced no problems loading the disc or enjoying the non-BD Live special features. The unit itself is very sleek and slender and weighs less than five pounds. Additionally, the player is silent during use.

I highly recommend this player to anyone interested in owning a great blu-ray player at the low-end of the price spectrum. Although the player is not BD Live compliant, LG still deserves to be commended for releasing an affordable alternative to the price-conscious consumer.

Blu-ray Player,1080P HDMI output

With the BD60, Panasonic adds VIERA Cast online content access to their previous entry-level model, the DMP-BD35. You would think this makes an excellent Blu-ray Player even better and it does. The BD60 excels in its Blu-ray Disc playback and is very good at DVD upconversion as well, passing difficult tests like the HQV benchmark discs with flying colors (as well as looking good on real movies). The BD60 can decode all of the latest surround codecs (including DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD) to PCM over HDMI or it can stream these to a compatible receiver in their native formats. Also, if past Panasonic players are any indication, the BD60 should prove to be among the best at disc compatibility, something which has plagued many players from other brands.

The bluray playback is Excellent, appears to be identical to the previous 350 model. The DVD upscaling to me is just "O.K.", again looks identical to the 350, so I dont see any visible improvement with the new Precision Drive that Sony is promoting. I have noticed that the dvd video quality is improved if the video output on the player is changed from "Auto" to "480" when playing standard dvd's. The player also plays movies copied to dvd-r disks flawlessly. The 360 has played every disk i've put in it from bluray, to dvd, to movies burned on dvd-r's.
